Maddie Regent unveils emotional new single, “Turtleneck.”
New York City-based indie-pop music act, Maddie Regent reveals her hauntingly beautiful new single, “Turtleneck,” from her upcoming debut album, “On the phone with my mom,” out May 16th. Building on the magnetic vulnerability of previous singles, such as “The wolf,” “You could break my heart,” and “Sleeptalking,” “Turtleneck” invites listeners once again, into Maddie’s dreamy indie-pop realm.

Anchored by her crystalline vocals, “Turtleneck” weaves a delicate tapestry of shimmering melodies and introspective lyrics, a signature component of Maddie’s artistry. At its core, “Turtleneck” is a very poignant exploration of post-breakup disorientation—the kind of emotional limbo where the past feels safer than the actual present. “‘Turtleneck’ is about how lost you can get after getting out of a relationship,” Maddie shares. “It’s tempting to ground yourself in the memory of what was, rather than accepting what is.” The track’s super whimsical yet raw soundscape perfectly mirrors this tension, pulling listeners into a world where hope and heartbreak intertwine.
“Turtleneck” is awash with sophistication and elegance, thanks to its utterly smooth production pattern and bright, inviting soundscape. It feels like one of her most cohesive tracks yet, not just because of the cathartic way it was written, but also due to the musical style that acts as a unifying thread. Now, the singer and songwriter is armed with her most ambitious project yet—her debut album, “On the phone with my mom,” and she is poised to make 2025 her breakout year. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears ready for when the album drops. For now though, listen to the new song, “Turtleneck” below.
