Mahdéy X Zillie X Afro Cadet - Fly Away

“Fly Away” introduces three rising stars from Nigeria.

Three budding artistes and schoolmates close the current tedious chapter of their academic lives and reach for the stars on the Afro-pop single, “Fly Away.” Written collaboratively by all three acts, the track captures them at the brink of graduation, preparing to step into the world in their own distinct ways.

As the chorus ensues, Mahdéy grabs the opportunity to showcase her vocal range. Soft, clear and pristine are all words that can be used to describe her performance, delivering each line like a true seasoned performer. Lyrics such as, “I’ll take all of the lessons that I’ve learnt and fly away,” encapsulates the core message: using gained knowledge as fuel for the journey ahead.

Afro Cadet steps in midway, shifting the dynamic of the song. His deeper vocals contrast the softness of the preceding verses, adding a new texture. Opening up about the future and the uncertainties that come with it, he offers a truly grounded perspective. The switch-up in tone is quite refreshing and brings a welcome balance to the energy of the track.

Mahdéy returns with another verse, reflecting on the challenges she has faced so far, and the strength she’s drawn from her friends and faith in God. The pre-chorus reappears and she closes the track on a very strong note, rounding off a well executed performance.
