Budding musician, Empty Pinata re-emerges with the new single, “TikTok Girl.” The singer uses both still and moving image to deliver a fun unique artistic experience, vividly highlighted on his debut track, “I Have A Huge Crush On Doja Cat.” His artwork and visuals are often times defined as odd, as he is deeply motivated and driven by comedy and cinema. As a creative, he gets to play with the art form in ways most traditional musicians cannot — being on the nose and self deprecating, while still keeping an interesting writing and performance style.
A youthful single, “TikTok Girl” draws from the real life experiences of Empty Pinata as a child. Trendy girls, driving around, using substances and getting ghosted, a tale as old as time. The fresh single paints the story from Empty Pinata’s perspective, as the girl he develops feelings for is literally always stuck on her phone.
“TikTok Girl” radiates a summery energy at its inception, bright and full of life, as Empty Pinata’s vocals soon fill up the vacant soundscape. The indie/bedroom pop offering runs for just over two minutes, but does enough to immerse you into Empty Pinata’s current state. His vocals are excellent and seamlessly sync with the production on display, making the entire track a solid musical construct.
Lyrically, his words are impressively expressive, as he analyzes the present phase which the girl is experiencing. The line, “with a bowl in her hand, as she fades away” perfectly encapsulates the lifestyle of the “TikTok Girl.” Seemingly inspired by psychedelics and mellow vibes, the track is well crafted, highlighting the messy and complicated nature of the subject matter.
Empty Pinata does a brilliant job of capturing the vulnerability attached to the “TikTok Girl” as well, as she struggles to find her place in the world. An authentic piece of artistry, Empty Pinata’s “TikTok Girl” is a vibrant piece that shimmers, despite its somewhat downbeat lyrical content.
