Royal Teeth’s “Hold Me” is a light-hearted musical confection
If music tells a story, then Royal Teeth’s joyous, inspired songs spin an exuberant tale of possibility, each note conveying the youthful excitement of venturing out into the great wide world. The New Orleans-based indie pop band has managed to merge vulnerability and a catchy beat together on their track, “Hold Me.”
The song is a nostalgia-laced pop melody and starts off with quaint ukulele riffs. Following the first pluck of the ukulele and the echoing vocals of the female lead singer, the listener is pulled into their pretty world, one as innocently buoyant as falling in love. The gentle introductory instrumentation is later combined with heavy percussion, which is quite stompy but adds little variation. This creates a sound that allows the music to take hold of the listener in an emotional way. The chorus stands out as the perfect example of how Royal Teeth can show off their own musical style; deeply honest lyrics to a toe-tapping beat that gets stuck in your head.
“Hold Me” captures the moment shared with a loved one right before the end of the world. Royal Teeth have succeeded in creating a genre of magical pop, that’s clearly shown in all their songs. For fans of great and uplifting music, look no further than Royal Teeth.
